Our Food Care Projects

Covid-19 is worsening the hunger crisis in many countries all over the globe including Pakistan, pushing already food-insecure families to the brink of starvation. According to the UN, the effects of coronavirus could double world hunger. Covid-19 could possibly bring on another global pandemic, a hunger pandemic. Our hunger relief programmes are now more important than ever to help people fight the effects of hunger and malnutrition as they try and protect themselves from the coronavirus. Moreover, one in ten people will go to bed hungry every single night – that’s 161 million more people than last year. With soaring food prices and livelihoods decimated by the pandemic and ongoing conflicts, vulnerable people often have no choice but to eat food without nutrients, eat insufficiently, or not eat at all. We offer this basic necessity in the form of food packs, qurbani and throughout the blessed month of Ramadan.

How You Can Make A Difference

**Feed The Fasting

Every Ramadan we provide thousands of families enough nutritional food to last them the entire month, giving them the peace of mind to focus on other priorities during the blessed month. We provide food packages to all our three thousand plus registered families. Remember our beloved Prophet (ﷺ) was reported to have said “whoever feed hungry and a fasting person will be compensated with forgiveness of sins and salvation of his soul from Hell. He will also receive a reward equal to that of the person he feeds, without causing him any reduction.” [Sahih Muslim], so benefit from this great deed today.

**During Ramadan only

What Is Fidya?

Fidya refers to a mandatory charity contribution to make up for missed fasts. This can only be paid if you have a valid reason for not fasting and can’t make up for missed fasts at a later date. Contributing your Fidya amount 2024 for not fasting will feed someone living in poverty twice or help to provide two impoverished people with a meal each.

Who Pays Fidya?

As previously mentioned, the payment of Fidya is required when one misses their fast with good reason to do so and cannot make up for this at a later date. The following individuals are permitted to miss their fast and pay Fidya instead:

  • Elderly people
  • People who are required to take certain medication
  • People who experience short-term illnesses throughout Ramadan
  • People with chronic mental illnesses
  • Pregnant women

Who Can Receive Fidya?

Fidya can’t be given to just anyone; it must be given to the poor and needy, much like Zakat. Here at Muazzam Foundation, we ensure that your Fidya donations reach those who are in the most desperate of circumstances, allowing you to transform the life of someone who really needs it.

How Much Is Fidya For Ramadan 2024?

Fidya 2024 equates to £5 per person per missed fast. So, if a person doesn’t fast for the entirety of Ramadan, they’ll be required to pay £150 in total.

What Is Kaffarah?

Kaffarah is the donation made when you deliberately miss or break your fast during the month of Ramadan without a valid reason. Kaffarah is not an obligatory contribution as you can choose to fast continuously for 60 days, although if you intentionally miss or break another fast, you must begin the 60 days again. The Kaffarah contribution is used to feed 60 people living in poverty.

When Should I Pay Fidya/Kaffarah?

Fidya doesn’t have to be paid exclusively in Ramadan, and you can pay your Fidya all year round. It’s also permitted to pay outstanding Fidya and Kaffarah payments from a previous year during Ramadan.

Is Giving Fidya/Kaffarah Compulsory?

Sawm is one of the Five Pillars of Islam, and it’s this Pillar that dictates all able Muslims over the age of puberty must fast. Therefore, anyone who cannot or does not fast must compensate in some way.

What is Lillah?

Lillah is any form of charity given purely with the intent to please Allah SWT. However, this charitable giving is given on an entirely voluntary basis and not like Zakat which is an obligatory charity due from every eligible Muslim on a yearly basis.

What is the meaning of Lillah?

Lillah literally means ‘for Allah’.

What is the difference between Zakat and Lillah?

Zakat is an obligatory charity due from every Muslim on a yearly basis. However, Lillah is an entirely voluntary charity given at any time of year purely with the intent to please Allah SWT, any amount can be given.

Unlike Zakat, which has a number of stipulations regarding the type of assistance it can provide, Lillah can be used for any project or programme which is of benefit to people and/or Islamic institutions.

An old man carrying food on his head received from a food project in Pakistan

Many of the country’s poorer people engage in daily wage labour which offers no security and was drastically impacted by Covid-19 and lockdowns as they were unable to work. Millions were facing their darkest days in the face of hunger and starvation, making impossible decisions about whether to eat, be clothed, or be clean. Now, as the world is slowly emerging from the pandemic, many communities are facing huge rises in the cost of food and living, with many businesses also having closed and so unemployment also rising. A food pack gives a family of 4/5 enough nutritional food for an entire month.

Goats and Cows in a garden ready Eid Qurbani in Pakistan

Did you know that our beloved Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) offered two Qurbanis instead of one? The first was for himself. The second was on behalf of someone from his Ummah who could not afford it. This was a Sunnah practised by some of the Sahaba.

Orphans and widows living in extremely poor conditions and poverty often go days without food or water. So many are deprived of basic human rights unable to provide for their families. By choosing to make your Qurbani donation in Pakistan or India, you’ll help the neediest orphans and widows make ends meet and have the chance to enjoy the celebrations of Eid al-Adha this year. We ensure your generous Qurbani donation is used to nourish and nurture the lives of those in Pakistan who need it the most.
